Traffic Safety

We continue to work for safe pedestrian walkways. We are seeking for more traffic signs to clearly advise drivers of traffic laws. We also seek to add more traffic lights and to make sure the traffic lights are sequenced to give pedestrians more time  to cross streets and to allow drivers to make timely turns.

This is an ongoing campaign and we will continue to update our progress.

Immigration

Immigration continues to be a fluid issue that our members care about. We will continue to have conversations on what is important when it comes to DACA, TPS and refugees. However, we will rally against all inhumane laws as well as participate in amending and changing policies hat helps this country and the hard working immigrant communities.

Food insecurity

We make sure our neighbors needs are met. More than ever we thank our partners who continue to share resources so we can be there for our community. Because of you we can deliver meals to our members.

Census 2020

The resources that comes to our communities are vital for it's sustainability, growth and success. When communities are under counted it robs them of that success. This is why we have been working hard to make sure our hardest to count communities of color, particularly the immigrant community to be well counted in the 2020 Census. Elmont Cultural Center is proud to announce that we have received two grants to do Census work. We thank New York Civic Engagement Table (NYCET) and New York Community Trust (NYCT) for trusting our work to increase the 2020 Census count.

Education

A time to stand up for the decency of our humanity is when we realize that the dignity of a people is being attacked. This is why we stood against the vile words directed at the Hispanic community from former School Board Trustee Pandit. We expect more and demand better from our leaders who makes decisions about our lives. We will continue to make sure that school board members participate in diversity and cultural competency workshops.

Here are some of the issues we continue to work towards for successful communities.
